Ideally located on Cirali Beach, Bellerofon is a tranquil hotel and offers the perfect, rustic, relaxing beach holiday; even the meal times are not rigid, simply get up for breakfast when you feel like it.
With just 8 wooden chalets, Bellerophon Hotel feels exclusive but never pretentious. Meals are served on the beach patio, food produce in the main is local and fresh, the breakfast is so rich and varied that you will want to photograph it, the evening meals consist of Turkish vegetarian starters, salads, grilled meats and fish. Even the bread is baked on site every day.
This is Turkey at its laid back best, and the location is simply breathtaking.
The green wooden chalets here all have ensuite facilities and a mini bar. Air conditioning is standard and a private porch and hammock are an added bonus. The chalets are designed for 2 people, though some can sleep a third person. They are set in a sub-tropical garden with a diverse array of local flora, including mulberry, orange, loquat, kumquat, lemon, olive and banana trees. The chalet on this section of Bellerophon Hotel are situated directly on Cirali Beach, secluded by the gardens.
This is a separate annexe to the main section of the resort and behind Cirali lane. The chalets here are set in an Orange Grove, and have a natural wood exterior. They are more spacious and have a more contemporary feel inside, equipped with a modern ensuite shower room, coffee maker, minibar and air con. There are 3 chalets here in total, set amidst the orange trees and just 200 meters from the beach. Guests use the facilities at the main hotel; meals on the beach patio, sun loungers, free use of mountain bikes and wireless internet.

The most striking element in Cirali is Cirali Beach itself. Surrounded by glorious mountains, blessed with crystal clear waters and so large it never feels crowded even in peak season. The beach is under protection as it is a nesting ground for sea turtles. As such, you will not find any banana boats or para gliders anywhere in sight. Heaven!
As the resort is situated on Cirali Beach, you will no doubt spend many wonderful hours of relaxation there. However, be sure to take the time to stroll to the other end of the beach and turn right into the valley of Olympos in order to explore the discreet ruins of this former Lycian port city. The ruins are hidden in a sub tropical jungle amongst over grown vines and trees and are simply a joy to explore. As you enter the valley from the beach, there is a small admission charge. You will also see that many of the buildings are sign posted.
High above Cirali along the slopes of Mt. Olympos is the Chimaera, known in Turkish as Yanartas or Burning Stone. It is the stuff of legend! Natural gas seeps out of the earth and inflames on contact with air. Ancient people attributed the flames to a fire breathing monster. This is a must see! Better to go after dark and bring a torch! The stepped climb to the flames is tough but with regular breathers along the way it should not be a major problem. Take a taxi from Bellerofon to the bottom of the hill, about 7 minutes drive or you could walk it in 30 minutes or so. During the climb up mind your step and watch out for slippery stones. With Turks, is has become somewhat of a tradition to cook Turkish spicy sausage or “sucuk” on the flames. Coupled with a bottle of red wine it makes for a great night-time picnic.
Another set of ruins, including an impressive theatre, await you at Phaselis, a short drive along the main road heading north towards Antalya. These ruins are better kept than those at Olympos and are set in a wonderful natural harbour. If you hire a car, this will be a pleasant half day outing. The ruins are sign posted from the main road.
Along the beach you may see advertisements for boat excursions. Though the local boat tours are great the more impressive tour is that of Kekova Island. This involves a 2 hour drive along the coast. The boat excursion takes in the Sunken City, Byzantine ruins partly submerged under the sea, and Simena Village with its wonderful cliff top castle and amazing collection of Lycian tombs. On the way back to Cirali you should stop in Demre and Myra. The ruins at Demre are most impressive, the theatre is in fine condition and the rock tombs set into the mountains are a sight to behold. In Myra, just down the road, you have the opportunity to explore the church of St. Nicolas, the original Santa Claus. Whilst we would recommend a locally arranged tour for this day out, you can of course rent a car and do it all yourself. Take the main highway South towards Kas. Boats can be boarded in Ucagiz or Kale.
Hotel reception will be able to assist you with car hire if you wish. There is a local firm in Cirali that has a reasonable range of vehicles and competitive prices. Alternatively we can arrange it for you before you go to ensure you get a vehicle. We strongly recommend that you drive only during daylight hours. The roads in Turkey may be unfamiliar to you and this is a precaution worth taking, visibility at night is not great.
Probably one of the best holidays we have ever had. 10 out of 10. I would go back a thousand times and highly recommend. We felt it was huge value for money, an entirely pleasant experience. We felt so welcome and well looked after but at the same time were given the space to enjoy some much needed rest time together and explore the culture and local areas. The holiday really was everything we dreamed of. Kathryn Spalding, 2014, UK
We thought the service was excellent. We loved the laid back attitude, breakfast whenever and wherever we wanted (on porch, in the restaurant, in the garden or the beach). Few evenings we had dinner on the beach with a fire underneath the beautiful starry sky which we thought was quite special (esp since we were the only people around). Enjoyed working to Olympus and day trip to Myra and sailing. The Chimera was good to see too. We (mid thirties married couple with 5 yr old) had an excellent holiday. We loved the beach with its clear and clean waters, the fruit trees growing throughout the village, the mountain back drop, and the ducks and chickens charging around. Sze Hunter, UK
A glorious week in Cirali! I just wanted to thank you for arranging the holiday. We had a fantastic time and absolutely loved the hotel and its location. Food was delicious and the staff at the hotel and our driver for our transfers were so friendly and helpful. I loved the fact that at Bellerophon you felt like you were at home and not staying at some touristy hotel. Gail De Salis
We’re easily pleased kind of people but quite simply – as soon as we landed and made our way down towards Cirali in our pick up car, we just knew we were going to have a wonderful week. One particularly memorable experience would be getting up at the crack of dawn, taking pictures of the sun as it rose and being privileged to witness 4 baby turtles being helped out of their nest (as it was late season) and making a bid for freedom into the morning sea – amazing. We still wonder about how they got on. Also – the hospitality and food! We could go on … Sam Craig, UK.
Where do I start? The landscape is stunning. Looking up at those incredible mountains from the beach was awe inspiring. I loved the beach itself with its outcrops of flowers and sea holly. The sea was clean and perfect for swimming. The food was fabulous: simple and tasty and made with local ingredients. The accommodation was fantastic: plenty of space, attractive decor, a comfortable bed and a wonderful bathroom. The best part of the whole holiday though was the peace. The loudest noises came from the birds. Marvelous! Jane Bateman, UK.
We all needed to relax and enjoy some sun. This holiday really delivered. The people were great, the location fantastic and my kids were really impressed that the sea was warm! The beach was just like you see on holiday programmes on TV, and think to yourself – that place doesn’t really exist – it really does! Although not a private beach as such, it felt like it. Bellerophon Hotel is in the middle of a small bay and most of the other visitors to the beach stay at one end, so near the hotel it is pretty quiet. If you are looking not to do too much other than relax, read, sun bathe and swim this is ideal for you. There is not a lot “urban” to do unless you have your own transport or hire a car. No buzzing night-life (although you could brave a pitch dark walk along the beach into Olympos itself), no shopping distractions, just peaceful bliss. Adam May, UK.
We arrived at 2am, completely in the dark. When we woke up the next morning we couldn’t believe where we were. Right by the beach, gorgeous sunshine, and lots of trees and flowers amongst which we enjoyed the most incredible breakfast spread. What a start to the holiday. Monika Neal, UK.
I’m writing to to say that my wife and I loved our holiday at Bellerophon, it was everything we had hoped for. I don’t think we can pay a greater complement than to say we have changed our holiday plans for next year and will travel to Cirali again. David Morgan, UK.
We had a really excellent relaxing time. Thank you so much for organising it. Bellerophon and Cirali were both lovely places to be for a week. In principle, we would be quite interested in booking the same week next year.. Neil Turton, UK.
I just wanted to thank you for your help arranging our trip to Turkey! We had a wonderful time and just loved the Bellerophon Hotel! Everyone was so warm and welcoming, the food was exceptional, and the beach and environment around us was amazing. I want to go back already. Josie Mauze, UK.
Just wanted to say what a marvelous location and marvelous holiday. The way you are looked after and catered for is unbelievable. The thrill of a beach to yourself is soooooooooo appealing. Fran Askey, UK.
We had an incredible time at the Bellerophon! We were the only ones staying for most of the week which made it feel like our very own little hideaway! We can’t wait to go back. Thanks for all your help and hopefully we’ll be in touch again soon!!! Julian and Shaida, UK.
We really appreciated the magnificent surroundings, the unhurried atmosphere, and above all the very friendly attention of Akif and Nuri. It has to be said that the dinners and breakfasts were two high points of each day – quite incomparable! There was so much to do in the area – strolling to Olympos one way and Yanartas the other – plus outings to Phaselis, Kemer, by boat to Kekova and by jeep into the mountains. This holiday provided just the right mix of restful inactivity with good sightseeing opportunities. Mike Watson, UK.
We are now back from a lovely week in Cirali. It was a fantastic place with great staff and gorgeous surroundings. Just like you said! One of our best holidays ever! Katarina Löfström, Sweden.
Many thanks for the great arrangements you made. We hade a wonderful stay at the Bellerophon hotel in Cirali. It offered a unique combination of nature (deserted turtle beach and mountain hiking trails directly at the doorstep), great food, friendly staff and romantic scenery. Marijn de Wit, Netherlands.
Bellerophon Hotel was the absolute perfect venue for our honeymoon, a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere, friendly hosts, wonderful food and amazing scenery. This was a side of Turkey we had no idea existed. Gordon and Clair Ryan, Ireland.
We had a fantastic time, Bellerophon is exactly as described and just what we needed. Akif was more than helpful, and Nuri a great chef. We loved the accommodation and setting and having our meals on the patio. Blissful in every way. Mandy Mclellan, UK.
We had the most perfect holiday… Cirali is a protected wildlife area where turtles nest and farming & tourism work side by side. Our hotel was family owned and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. We had beautiful home cooked food, delicious local wines and fruit from the garden. Cirali encourages responsible tourism – no crowding, no rubbish and do not disturb the wildlife! It’s for the thoughtful and environmentally friendly holiday maker, and Journey Anatolia will organise it all for you. Lou Toosey, UK.
We had a wonderful holiday at Bellerophon. It was quite amusing arriving in the dead of night, we had no idea where we were or what to expect in the morning – but walking out onto the veranda looking right onto the beach was a delight. This was followed by a sumptuous breakfast, served impeccably by the ever smiling Akif! It was very romantic with lovely walks in a gorgeous setting with the snow capped mountain behind. We felt no need to hire a car and go elsewhere. There was enough of interest in the immediate environs of the village with lovely walks and classical mystery to keep us occupied. The food was SUPERB!!! and our thanks go to Akif & Nuri for being our perfect hosts. Many thanks for drawing our attention to a magical spot. Loudon Greenlees, UK.
