| Chosen as a World Heritage City by Unesco, Safranbolu is one of the jewels of our tour, a beautiful city that boasts original Ottoman architecture and a way of life that has changed little for hundreds of years. During the Ottoman era the town served as an important caravan station on the main East–West trade route and boasts a fully restored caravanserai. Safranbolu was at the same time a popular residence for Ottoman Royalty. The city gets its name from the abundance of saffron that grows in the area. This valuable spice is used in the famous local desserts and you will not taste a better Turkish delight than what Safranbolu has to offer.
In Safranbolu, functionalism is the major architectural concern. All houses face public and religious buildings and no matter from which house you look, your view is never obscured.
