In a lush hilltop location close to the village of Islamar, Villa Papatya is a modern property set within a beautiful rural location, yet only 15 minutes away from sophisticated Kalkan. This is Turkey at its most authentic with the possibility of neighbours passing by offering village bread, fresh milk and eggs. From the patio, shepherds can be seen tending to their goats as the sun sets over the mountains and sea beyond. Boasting a private swimming pool and spacious grounds, this single storey property has light, bright interiors with a shady outside terrace for outdoor dining, and a hammock slung between beams overlooking the stunning Patara beach.
Villa Papatya is a 3 bedroom single storey villa that can sleep 2-6 guests. The villa is functional and feels bright and spacious with its open plan kitchen and lounge area and lots of sunlight pouring in from its many windows and patio doors. The decor is very tasteful; cosy lighting for the evenings, classy colours and hues, understated furnishings with just the odd indulgent decorative accent. Of particular note is the excellent collection of original photographic prints hanging on the walls. The grounds are spacious, although you are likely to spend most of your time around the pool, shady pegoda and the main patio, taking in the laid back atmosphere of Islamlar village.
Fully furnished lounge with satellite TV connection, LED smart TV, DVD player and music system with aux input for an iPod. Double doors open out onto the patio.
The villa boasts an open-plan, fully equipped kitchen with granite worktops and all the appliances.
All bedrooms are furnished with wardrobes and side cabinets. The master bedroom has an en suite and doors opening on to the patio.
Large, private, mature garden with large patios perfect for barbecues and a pegoda, known locally as a ‘kosk”.
Just a 15 minute drive from Villa Papatya is the cosmopolitan town of Kalkan, with its high end restaurants, bars and boutiques. Kalkan boasts a wonderful old Greek style harbour as well as a good beach practically in the centre. This is a place to come for a swim, a nice bit of lunch and certainly a rooftop dinner at one of many terrace restaurants offering fine dining with great views. You may also be nicely entertained by the traditional Turkish market here on Thursdays.
The Town of Kas
A picturesque seaside harbour town nestled within a beautiful bay surrounded by mountains. Kas manages a delicate balance of traditional Turkey with international tourism. Many of its original Greek style houses are still preserved. Charming tea gardens, cafes and smart boutiques, as well as excellent restaurants and bars are located along cobblestone streets.
The famous sandy beaches of Patara and Kaputas are not very far and make great day trips. Patara is a stunning 18 km long sandy beach, with sand dunes to one end and historic ruins to the other. It is also a a nestling ground for the endagered loggerhead sea turtle is protected from development. Kaputas Beach though a lot smaller is no less beautiful. It is located at the bottom of a deep ravine some 3 km from Kalkan. Don’t miss it.
There are many ancient historical sites and ruins nearby, this is a region abundant in Lycian cities, sarcophagi and amphitheaters galore. Be sure to visit Kekova for the underwater city ruins, Demre for the wonderful rock tombs and the Church of St Nicolas and if you want even more adventure there is Arycanda, a stunning Lycian city nested in a mountain side about an hours driving from Kas.
Local villages also make for interesting excursions, providing a glimpse into Turkish rural life. Of note, Sutlegen, Kasaba and Gursu are great spots.

Note, we strongly recommend that you drive only during daylight hours. The roads in Turkey may be unfamiliar to you and this is a precaution worth taking, visibility at night is not great. This goes in particular to driving from Dalaman airport if arriving after dark. In this situation, it is better to take a transfer from the airport and rent your car locally.

Transfer time from Dalaman Airport to Islamlar is 1.5 hours. Car hire can be arranged for the duration of your stay at the villa. The centre of Kalkan is a 15-20 min drive from the house.
A lovely villa, very comfortable, modern and well equipped with wonderful views towards the coast. A peaceful rural location to return to and the daily bread delivery was a thoughtful touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and would love to go back.
